In 2016, my mother donated her kidney to my grandfather, at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. Personally going through the experience truly made me realize the importance of organ donation and transplantation, and the impact it has on the donor, the recipient, and their families.
Inspired by my mother’s selflessness and bravery, I created and led the initiative by the name of Recycle Life MNK alongside my mother and brother; with the goal to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation and to reduce the number of living donors.
I have worked under an NGO called ORGAN India for over a year now. We have organized donor pledge drives to raise awareness in schools, businesses, and organizations. We have held 10+ talks, including one each for grade 12 students and the teachers at my school, and gotten over 450 people to register as organ donors. I analyzed the registry data at ORGAN India to develop awareness material for segments of society that are not registered yet. I also wrote an article that was published on ORGAN India’s website, about my journey as an organ donor’s family member.
I have reached out to dozens of celebrities and public figures to collect endorsements to promote awareness surrounding organ donation and have collected over 20 video bytes from renowned doctors, celebrities, and public influencers such as, but not limited to Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, Dr. Lye Wai Choong, Dr. Navin Dang, Ms. Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Ms. Rudrani Chettri and Mr. Suvir Saran.
